DESCRIPTION:
The
Basset Hound University
School of Judging
has
been developed by the Basset Hound Club of America as an educational
program for prospective or new judges of Basset Hounds as well as for
Basset Hound breeders. The goal of the program is three fold: (1) it is
intended to provide important information about judging and breeding the
Basset and how to prioritize conformation virtues and weaknesses along
with offering a key foundation course in canine anatomy; (2) it gathers
together the classic interpretative works in Basset Hound breed
literature; and (3) it is designed as a home study workbook program to
guide judges and breeders through the learning process.
The
BHU School of Judging
consists of 4 courses, each of which includes a series of workbook
exercises. The workbook program uses a traditional correspondence school
format which allows judges or breeders to work at home and complete the
program at their own pace. Some may complete the workbook exercises in
several weeks; others may take longer. The emphasis is on convenience
and flexibility. In its on-going support of judges’ and breeder
education, the Basset Hound Club of America will send a
Certificate of Completion
to those who mail their completed written exercises to the BHCA Judges’
Education Department.
This is the ultimate course for any judge who wishes to develop a deeper
understanding of the Basset Hound. It is also a must program for
breeders of Bassets.
TABLE OF CONTENTS: The BHU School of Judging includes the following 4
courses.:
Course #501: BHCA Judges’ Education CD Workbook Program.
This course is based on the official
BHCA Judges’ Education Seminar CD.
Workbook exercises are designed to help judges learn and remember the
information presented in the breed seminar and how to understand and
prioritize conformation features in the Basset Hound.
Course #103:
The Basset Hound Breed Standard and Terminology.
A series of workbook exercises designed to help judges familiarize
themselves with the Basset Hound Breed standard, Basset Hound
terminology and important parts of the Basset.
Course #104: Survey of Basset Hound Breed Literature.
A workbook program that is designed around key interpretative articles
on the Basset Hound written by breeders, judges and canine experts.
Course #302: Practical Canine Anatomy.
The
Practical Canine Anatomy
textbook discusses key skeletal and surface parts of the dog that judges
and breeders should know and approaches the topic of canine anatomy from
the point of view of evaluating a dog’s structural balance based on 4
important elements, which include (1) size, (2) substance, (3) stance
and (4) proportions. This course is applicable to all breeds of dog.
CD TEMPLATE:
The CD Template for course #601 (BHU School of Judging) is in Powerpoint
and is designed to provide guidelines for a School of Judging Program
for any breed. Questions in the workbook programs can also be easily
modified for use with other breeds. Because it is designed for all
breeds, there is no CD template for Course #302,
Practical Canine Anatomy.
