DESCRIPTION: The BHCA Judges’ Education CD Workbook Program is based on information presented in the Basset Hound Club of America’s Judges’ Education CD.  Judges and breeders usually attend this seminar once, which is generally not enough exposure to the key information that they should know about the Basset Hound.   By carefully studying the content of each slide, each of which comes from the official BHCA Judges’ CD, and by doing the accompanying workbook exercises, Basset breeders, handlers and new judges will gain greater familiarity with the Basset Hound and how to prioritize virtues and weaknesses in this breed. This course is recommended for all judges, breeders and handlers of Basset Hounds.  A Certificate of Completion will be sent to those who complete the workbook exercises.

TABLE OF CONTENTS: Each slide in the official BHCA Judges’ Education CD is reproduced for further study.  The Basset Hound is viewed from the point of view of its original purpose; how its form is associated with its function; a discussion of achondroplasia; common misconceptions; how to prioritize faults and virtues; how to define breed type and balance; evaluating movement, head, forequarters, hindquarters, ribcage, and backline (topline), among other features.

CD TEMPLATE: The CD Template for course #501 is in Powerpoint and is designed to provide a guideline for those wishing to develop a similar Judges’ Education CD as well as accompanying workbook exercises for their breed. Much of the approach and format of this Basset Hound breed presentation can be used as a model in designing a similar presentation for other breeds.  The true and false and multiple choice questions in the workbook program can also be easily modified for use with other breeds.
